The Pittsburgh Pirates recent flurry of roster moves continued Tuesday when the team announced they optioned right-handed pitcher Hunter Stratton to Triple-A Indianapolis and recalled right-hander Michael Darrell-Hicks.
Stratton, who pitched one inning of relief in Monday’s 5-4 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday, was recalled June 21. Tasked with preserving a 3-1 lead during the fourth inning, Stratton allowed three earned runs on four hits in relief of starter Braxton Ashcraft.
In three appearances with the Pirates this season, Stratton has a 23.63 ERA and has allowed seven earned runs on 10 hits in 2 2/3 innings pitched.
Claimed off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels on June 13, Darrell-Hicks was recalled from Indianapolis where he made two scoreless appearances in relief. Darrell-Hicks made his Major League debut with the Angels earlier this season and has a 9.39 ERA with six strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings.
The 27-year-old made 16 appearances for Triple-A Salt Lake before he was designated for assignment June 8. He was 0-2 with an 8.87 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 22 1/3 innings.
