NFL Rumors: Intriguing Wide Receiver Scheduled To Visit Steelers

Looks like Pittsburgh will move on from its Jonnu Smith pursuit

The Pittsburgh Steelers could sign a potential game-breaker this week.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Tuesday, free agent Gabe Davis scheduled plans to travel to Pittsburgh on Wednesday to visit with the Steelers. The 26-year-old played four seasons with the Buffalo Bills before playing for the Jacksonville Jaguars last season.

The reported scheduled visit came after the Steelers reportedly inquired about tight end Jonnu Smith. The veteran pass-catcher’s agent, however, made it clear Smith wants to remain with the Miami Dolphins and doesn’t prefer a trade.

Pittsburgh traded away George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys, but it still wants to upgrade its pass-catching corps to pair with offseason acquisition DK Metcalf.

Davis disappointed last season with 20 receptions for 239 yards in 10 games. The sixth-year wideout displayed an ability to stretch the field and be a deep-ball threat, which could benefit whoever the Steelers’ starting quarterback will be.
