Sidney Crosby’s Bid At Double Triple Crown Falls Short

Crosby finished the tournament with 12 points

Team Canada began the 2025 IIHF Men’s World Championship on fire, outscoring their first three opponents 16-1.

Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby led his team to a 6-0-1 record in the preliminary round, notching four goals and seven assists for 11 points across the first seven games of the tournament. He ranked second on Team Canada in goals and assists and third in points, and his 11 points tied Crosby for fifth in the entire tournament.

Crosby earned his induction into the Triple Gold club as the 26th player to win Worlds gold (2015), Olympic gold (2010, 2014), and the Stanley Cup (2009, 2016, 2017), and first to have captained all three teams to their respective titles.

Having won multiple titles in two of the three, Crosby was looking to become just the fourth member of the Double Triple Gold Club after Peter Forsberg, Igor Larionov, and Slava Fetisov.

Unfortunately for the Penguins’ captain, Team Canada fell to Denmark 2-1 on Thursday in their quarterfinal match-up at the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, ending Crosby’s bid to grow his legacy even more. Crosby did have the primary assist on Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Travis Sanheim’s goal to increase his point total to 12.
