The Pittsburgh Steelers signed a free agent Wednesday — no it wasn’t Aaron Rodgers.
The Steelers made a move with much less fanfare by signing 24-year-old offensive lineman Nick Broeker to a one-year deal. Broeker will provide depth to the interior of Pittsburgh’s offensive line.
Broeker spent the past two seasons with the Houston Texans and appeared in 12 games, including nine this past season. He also has experience on special teams.
Broeker was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft, but didn’t make the team out of training camp.
The 6-foot-5, 305-pound Broeker showed the ability to play both left tackle and guard in college at Ole Miss. That versatility will serve him well as he tries to earn a spot on Pittsburgh’s roster. Broeker also showed tremendous durability while with the Rebels, never missing a game in his four seasons.

Broeker basically is the replacement for Lecitus Smith, who was cut Tuesday. And perhaps if everything breaks right for Broeker, he’ll be on the field protecting Rodgers this upcoming season.
