New Steelers Safety Sends Bitter Warning Shot To Former Team

Juan Thornhill was cut by the Browns in February

The Pittsburgh Steelers signed cornerback Juan Thornhill to a one-year contract in March, but the 29-year-old is bitter.

Thornhill became one of several pieces the Cleveland Browns parted ways with, as the organization terminated his contract and sent him to the open market. That’s when the Steelers quickly swooped in and added Thornhill, while the Browns watched months go by before finding their defensive replacement. On Monday, Damontae Kazee became that replacement by signing a one-year deal with Cleveland — which caught Thornhill’s attention.

Pittsburgh’s newly added backfield piece took to social media to fire a spicy shot at Cleveland.

“Can’t wait !!! This (expletive) is Personal,” Thornhill posted on X.

Kazee, ironically, spent the past three seasons with the Steelers. So, oddly enough, the landing spot results for Kazee and Thornhill are that of a Pittsburgh-Cleveland trade that never happened. Thornhill, nonetheless, intends to join the Steelers with a chip on his shoulder and a deeply harbored resentment for the Browns organization.

Thornhill originally joined Cleveland on a three-year, $21 million contract that didn’t live to see its expiration. He logged 11 appearances in each of his two seasons with the Browns and recorded 103 tackles, four pass break-ups and zero interceptions. The front office expressed zero interest in keeping Thornhill aboard from then on.

Moving forward, Thornhill will aim to turn his newfound fuel into a bounce-back run with the Steelers next season.
