NFL Rumors: Jets’ Allen Lazard To Steelers ‘In Play’

Does a deal with Aaron Rodgers make the trade happen?

New York Jets wide receiver Allen Lazard is at the center of trade rumors linking him to the Pittsburgh Steelers, thanks to a report from Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio.

“Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Jets receiver Allen Lazard is ‘in play’ to be traded to the Steelers,” Florio wrote Wednesday. “Why Lazard? Because (Aaron) Rodgers completely and totally trusts him. And Lazard, for whatever reason, performs much better with Rodgers than he does without him.”

The move would make sense for the Steelers with George Pickens on his way to the Dallas Cowboys, coupled with the history between Lazard and Rodgers in Green Bay and New York.

“The possibility hinges largely, if not entirely, on Rodgers signing with the Steelers. While nothing with Rodgers is ever done until it’s done, the persistent thinking continues to be that it will happen,” Florio wrote. “And, as we hear it, there could be something to the notion that he’s waiting until after the schedule is released, so that the league can’t saddle the Steelers with extra prime-time and/or short-week games.”

Lazard caught a career-best eight touchdowns in 2021 with Rodgers throwing him the ball. The following year, Lazard set career highs with 60 receptions for 788 yards while catching six touchdowns from Rodgers in their final seasons with the Packers.
