Why MLB Insider Holds This Hope For Pirates, Paul Skenes

Skenes is off and running for another strong season

Paul Skenes wasted no time becoming a star for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Skenes earned the start in the All-Star Game for the National League and won Rookie of the Year honors for a reason in 2024. Now, he’s off to another strong start in 2025 with a 2.39 ERA. He continues to flex his elite arsenal and baffles hitters each time out.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan knows what an elite talent Skenes is and hopes to see him on the mound in Pittsburgh for quite some time.

“I want to see a team like the Pittsburgh Pirates, I want to see a fan base like the Pittsburgh Pirates fan base be rewarded and get to see the brilliance Paul Skenes brings on an every start basis,” Passan shared on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Tuesday. “Skenes right now, he’s just getting better. That’s the terrifying part to hitters.”
