New Steelers QB Will Howard Sends Message To Fans After Draft

'Can't wait to get to Pittsburgh and get started'

The Steelers selected a quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft, but not the one most expected.

Several draft analysts thought Pittsburgh could use the 21st overall pick on Shedeur Sanders. But Mike Tomlin’s side, like every other team, didn’t view Sanders worthy of a Day 1 or Day 2 selection. The Steelers waited until Day 3 to bolster their signal-caller group, and they did so by taking Will Howard in the sixth round (185th overall).

Howard, who led Ohio State to a national championship in his final collegiate season, was fired up to be picked by the storied franchise. The 23-year-old made as much very clear when he sent a message to Pittsburgh’s diehard fanbase.

“What’s up, Steelers Nation?” Howard said in a video released to the team’s official social media accounts. “Just jumped in the pool with my family to celebrate. Can’t wait to be a part of this. Can’t wait to get to Pittsburgh and get started. Let’s go.”

As it stands, Howard is a part of a Steelers QB depth chart that also includes Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson. However, Tomlin made it clear that Aaron Rodgers joining that group remains a possibility.
