Steelers Select Iowa’s Kaleb Johnson With Third-Round Pick In NFL Draft

Shedeur Sanders is still on the board

The Pittsburgh Steelers made their second draft selection. It was not Shedeur Sanders.

The Steelers added an offensive playmaker with the No. 83 overall pick, selecting Iowa running back Kaleb Johnson.

Pittsburgh made its first offensive selection of the 2025 NFL Draft after the Steelers picked Oregon’s Derrick Harmon in the first round Thursday night. Now, in an offseason with movement for Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren, the Steelers have a new skill player in the backfield.

Johnson dominated the Big Ten with Iowa in 2024 when he led the conference with 1,537 yards on the ground and 21 touchdowns. He continued a run of Day 2 running backs from the Big Ten after Ohio State’s Quinyon Judkins and TreyVeyon Henderson. The running back adds another offseason weapon on offense after Pittsburgh sent its second-round pick to the Seattle Seahawks for premier wideout D.K. Metcalf.

The Steelers have four selections on Day 3 with one pick in each of the final four rounds.
