NFL Draft Guru Sees Steelers Making Intriguing First-Round Pick

The Steelers are still in need of a quarterback

It feels like it’s still tough to decipher what the Pittsburgh Steelers will do with the No. 21 overall pick even on the eve of the NFL Draft.

NFL draft guru Daniel Jeremiah sees the Steelers addressing perhaps their biggest need given the uncertainty surrounding the Aaron Rodgers situation. Jeremiah predicted in his final mock draft that the Steelers will draft Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

“I’m not convinced the Steelers will take Sanders if he’s available, but if he doesn’t go here, I’m not sure where he ends up,” Jeremiah wrote. “Mason Rudolph can provide a little bit of a bridge until Sanders is ready to go. This pick is a classic case of need meeting value.”

Sanders, who complete 74% of his passes for 4,134 yards with 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions this past season, would give the Steelers the young quarterback they need in an offense the franchise upgraded in the offseason by acquiring star wide receiver DK Metcalf. Sanders seems to like the idea of throwing passes to Metcalf, too.

The Steelers have been adamant that drafting a quarterback won’t take them out of the running for Rodgers — who knows how Rodgers would feel about that, though. Steelers general manager Omar Khan even said this week that Pittsburgh wants to add two more quarterbacks to its roster.

But it feels like the best scenario for the Steelers is taking Sanders and having him learn under Rodgers for one season.
