Pirates’ Paul Skenes Had On-Brand Reaction To Bobblehead Demand

Skenes bobbleheads were a popular item

The Pittsburgh Pirates saw fans line up outside the gates of PNC Park more than five hours before their matchup with the Cleveland Guardians on Saturday.

Why?

Paul Skenes was not only going to be pitching, but there was a bobblehead of his likeness that was slated to be given away to the first 20,000 fans through the gates. Yes, a bobblehead is all it takes to get people out to the old ballyard, even if that seems a bit silly to some.

“It’s a bobblehead,” Skenes said following the game. “It’s not my thing.”

Would you expect anything else?

Pittsburgh dropped the matchup, too, so on top of not really being his thing, the bobbleheads felt even less important following the game. Skenes is clearly frustrated with the lack of wins, and believes something needs to be figured out to get back on track.

“Wish we would’ve gotten the win,” Skenes added. “… We’re just not executing at a high enough level and as consistently as we need to, to win these games,” he said. “I don’t think it’s a clubhouse thing. Everybody likes each other. But positive feelings, friendships and all that don’t win championships. We’ve got to figure it out.”

The Pirates will look to do just that when they face the Los Angeles Angels in the opening game of a three-game series on Tuesday.
