NFL Analyst Would Be ‘Super Surprised’ If Steelers Don’t Make This Draft Move

'They're drafting a quarterback at 21'

Chase Daniel fully expects the Pittsburgh Steelers to select a quarterback in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

“They’re drafting a quarterback at 21,” Daniel told The Athletic’s Dianna Russini during the “Scoop City” podcast. “I’d be super surprised if they don’t draft a quarterback at 21. In fact, I could see them trading up if a (Jaxon) Dart or Shedeur (Sanders) still on the board there.”

The Steelers have been heavily linked to Sanders during the pre-draft process. ESPN’s Adam Schefter views the Steelers as one of the most viable landing spots for Sanders and The Athletic’s Dane Brugler predicted Sanders to land in the Steel City in his latest mock draft. Sanders also met with the Steelers, and head coach Mike Tomlin reportedly is a big fan.

League evaluators and analysts are all over the map when it comes to Sanders, though. The New York Giants (No. 3) and New Orleans Saints (No. 9) aren’t out of the picture, but numerous league evaluators reportedly don’t view the Colorado product as a first-round talent.

Dart, Tyler Shough and Jalen Milroe are figured to be Day 2 options.

“If not, there’s been a lot of stuff about Jalen Milroe,” Daniel said. “Could you see Aaron Rodgers and Jalen Milroe in Pittsburgh? Yeah, sign me up for it.”

The Steelers will make that decision April 24.
