We’re officially in the second half of the Major League Baseball season.
The All-Star Game featured Pittsburgh Pirates star pitcher Paul Skenes starting for the National League and fans should be excited about the team heading into the second half.
Although there hasn’t been any game action, the front office still has been busy. The Pirates lost a little depth on Wednesday as Domingo Germán opted out of his contract with the Pirates. Germán was signed to a minor league deal by the Pirates and was 4-4 with a 5.35 ERA in 10 starts for Triple-A affiliate Indianapolis.
He may not ultimately be done with the team, though as the Pirates reportedly are “open” to a reunion, according to FanSided Robert Murray.
“The Pirates released pitcher Domingo Germán after he exercised an opt-out clause in his contract,” Murray said. “But the team remains open to bringing him back.”

Before signing with the Pirates March 16th, Germán had a 4.56 ERA last season in 20 appearances — including 19 starts — for the New York Yankees and is only 13 months removed from tossing a perfect game against the Oakland Athletics.
Bringing back Germán for starting pitching depth could help the Pirates down the stretch and give them more options as they fight for a playoff spot.
