Pirates Infielder Has Hilarious Take On New Torpedo Bats

Isiah Kiner-Falefa wants one

The Pittsburgh Pirates are looking to get their hands on some torpedo bats.

If you don’t know what a torpedo bat is — who are we kidding? We all know what torpedo bats are, so it’s no surprise that there are a few shipments already making their way to PNC Park.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazzette’s Noah Hiles talked about everyone’s favorite odd-looking piece of lumber with several members of the Pirates. Jared Triolo admitted to having a few on the way to his locker. Derek Shelton said he’s fine with whoever wants to give it a go. Isiah Kiner-Falefa had the best take on them, however.

“One good swing, and I’m taking it into the game,” Kiner-Falefa said, per Hiles. “If it drastically improves the power, then why not give it a shot?

The Pirates have to get one in his hands, however.

“I’m hoping the staff, they just bring some in here,” Kiner-Falefa said. “Until I use one, I don’t know, but I think it’s pretty cool. I think there’s a lot of different guys using it that didn’t get the results that those guys got. It could go either way. I’m not sure yet.”

Pittsburgh hasn’t put together very much offense to this point, as it entered its weekend series with the New York Yankees at just 1-6. Who knows, maybe the torpedo bats will make a difference? It’s at least worth a shot.
