The Pittsburgh Steelers just made life easier for themselves… and the rest of the NFL.
Pittsburgh proposed a rule change regarding making contact with free agents, which passed with some modification on a one-year trial basis Tuesday, per NFL Media’s Tom Pelisserro. NFL clubs now can have one video or phone call with no more than five prospective unrestricted free agents, and can book travel upon agreeing to terms.
Does that matter to any of us? No. Does that make booking flights a bit more simple for the men and women tasked with those responsibilities? Yes, which is pretty cool.
Pelissero explained that clubs previously could only have contact with agents — not players — during the negotiating window until free agency officially begins two days later. It’s pretty much common sense, meaning teams can actually speak to the people they’re about to give millions of dollars to. Whoopee.
