Pirates Call Up Top Pitching Prospect Who Will Make Debut Against Rays

The future is now for Thomas Harrington

A Pirates pitching prospect will make his MLB debut Tuesday.

Pittsburgh confirmed that pitcher Thomas Harrington was called up and will start against the Tampa Bay Rays at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

Harrington is ranked No. 78 overall by MLB Pipeline and is the Pirates’ No. 3 prospect. The right-hander competed for a spot in the rotation during spring training and recorded a 5.59 ERA in 9 2/3 innings with seven strikeouts in Grapefruit League action. The 2022 first-round pick pitched in Triple-A Indianapolis last season when he recorded a 3.33 ERA in 46 innings with 38 strikeouts.

Paul Skenes and Jared Jones started the wave of young pitching talent on the Pirates, and Harrington will look to continue that when he toes the rubber Tuesday. First pitch for the Pittsburgh-Tampa Bay matchup is scheduled at 7:05 p.m. ET on SportsNet Pittsburgh.
