The Pittsburgh Steelers aren’t done exploring ways to improve their offensive depth this offseason, outside of identifying a starting quarterback.
Terrence Marshall Jr., who spent last season with the Las Vegas Raiders, began exploring his options as a free agent and even stopped by to undergo a visit with the Steelers, per KPRC 2 Houston’s Aaron Wilson. The 24-year-old logged seven appearances, including one start with the Raiders and made three catches for 41 yards before hitting the open market.
Marshall was selected in the second round (59th overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers. The LSU product spent three seasons with Carolina and recorded his career-best campaign — Marshall totaled 490 receiving yards with a touchdown — in 2022. He has since bounced around the league a bit, joining the San Francisco 49ers’ practice squad before getting released, and is looking to carve out a role in his next landing spot.
The Steelers made their offseason splash in the wideout department, acquiring two-time Pro Bowler DK Metcalf in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks. Metcalf, now paired alongside George Pickens, gives whoever Pittsburgh names its starting quarterback two elite receiving targets to work with. Marshall could flourish as a supplemental depth piece working behind the pair and strive toward helping the Steelers make a deep playoff push.
Since Marshall is still young, there’s minimal risk from Pittsburgh’s perspective. Marshall’s ceiling remains high, and the Steelers could certainly benefit from a breakout next season. Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, last season’s starting quarterback tandem, joined the New York Giants and New York Jets, respectively, so Pittsburgh could use all the help it could get.
