Steelers’ Cam Heyward Addresses Stern Aaron Rodgers Remarks

'I don't think I really called him out'

Longtime Steelers leader Cam Heyward recently made his thoughts about Aaron Rodgers abundantly clear.

Heyward seemingly is on board with the idea of Rodgers playing quarterback in Pittsburgh, where Mike Tomlin and company have become one of the likeliest teams to sign the four-time NFL MVP. However, the veteran defensive lineman doesn’t want he or his team to be a part of Rodgers’ sideshow and Heyward has no interest in drawing up an elaborate pitch for the future Hall of Famer.

Those straightforward comments took on a life of their own, so much so that Heyward was asked about them last week when he appeared on “The Rich Eisen Show.”

“It’s funny. Everybody gave me crap,” Heyward told Eisen, as transcribed by NFL.com. “They said I called him out. I don’t think I really called him out. I just said I was not going to go on a darkness retreat to recruit him. That if he wants to be a Steeler, he can be a Steeler. That’s the pitch. I don’t know why everybody thought, ‘Oh, Cam’s really going at him.’ Some fans felt like, ‘Oh yeah, keep doing that,’ and the other fans felt like, ‘Oh, man, you’re really gonna scare him off.’ I’m not scaring anybody off. I just want to win games and play good football.”

At this point, Rodgers is the signal-caller who gives Pittsburgh the best chance to win in 2025. Mason Rudolph or an incoming second-tier rookie doesn’t exactly inspire a ton of confidence. But signing Rodgers would mean the Steelers would take on his baggage as well, and it would be interesting to see how a no-nonsense veteran like Heyward would handle such a situation.
