Joey Bart can bring some of the potential he hoped to show the San Francisco Giants to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Pirates catcher once stood out as the No. 1 prospect in the Giants system. San Francisco chose a different direction last April when they traded him to Pittsburgh to split time with veteran Yasmani Grandal. Bart looked solid across 80 games for the Pirates by hitting .265 with 13 home runs and a .799 OPS at the plate. Bart could take on a larger role and flashed a positive swing Wednesday.
Bart lofted a solo shot in spring training action in Bradenton, Fla., against the Toronto Blue Jays in a 7-6 win for the Pirates.

Bart’s still only played just 242 games in five MLB seasons. Consistent playing time could open the door for the Pittsburgh catcher to resurrect the potential that made him one of the sport’s more enticing prospects.
