Ex-Red Sox Infielders Make Early Impression At Pirates Spring Training

Nick Yorke and Enmanuel Valdez both reached base

Nick Yorke and Enmanuel Valdez each joined the Pittsburgh Pirates after limited MLB opportunities for the Boston Red Sox.

The infield pair got into spring training action for the Pirates Thursday against the Minnesota Twins in a resounding 12-1 victory for Pittsburgh. Yorke reached base twice with a single and a walk while Valdez walked and scored a run in the offensive showcase.

Valdez tallied 12 home runs and 20 doubles in 125 games for the Red Sox while Yorke made his MLB debut for Pittsburgh last season. He hit .216 with a pair of home runs in his small 11-game sample size. Both players look to make strong impressions this spring to force their way through an organizational logjam of infielders that’s already forced position changes.
