Pirates Non-Roster Invitee Takes Over Spring Training Opener

Matt Gorski went deep twice Saturday

The Pittsburgh Pirates drafted Matt Gorski out of Indiana in the second round of the 2019 MLB Draft. He arrived to spring training this season as a non-roster invitee and wasted no time stealing the show.

Gorski smacked two home runs against the Baltimore Orioles Saturday afternoon. The Pirates outfielder smashed a two-run home run in the sixth inning and followed that up with a grand slam in the ninth inning to drive in six runs on the day.

The outfield prospect started to put it together last season in Triple-A Indianapolis with an .841 OPS and 23 home runs across 113 games. The Pirates prospect gets the chance to take another step forward and got off to a great start in 2025.

The Pirates already have plenty of outfield going on with Oneil Cruz set in his move to center field and Bryan Reynolds shifted over to right field.
