Penguins Star Sidney Crosby Receives Special QMJHL Honor

Crosby's stardom began with the Rimouski Océanic before his Pittsburgh arrival

Before his NHL career, Sidney Crosby lit it up in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, and he received a full-circle moment from the league Tuesday.

Before he suited up and captained Team Canada at the 4 Nations Face-Off, Crosby met with representatives of the QMJHL who presented him with the QMJHL Rookie of the Year trophy. The league rep told the Pittsburgh Penguins superstar that the trophy would be dubbed the “Sidney Crosby Trophy” starting next season.

Crosby won the award when he played for the Rimouski Océanic in the 2003-04 season. The trophy still had his name on it and also has been won by top NHL stars like Nico Hischier and Alexis Lafrenière.

It’s only fitting that Crosby had an award named after him, and it likely won’t be the only time. However, the 37-year-old is still going strong and will look to lead Team Canada atop the 4 Nations Face-Off.
