Aaron Rodgers To Steelers? How Oddsmakers View Pittsburgh’s Chances

Pittsburgh does need a quarterback for the 2025 season

Russell Wilson and Justin Fields presumably are the leading starting quarterback candidates for the Pittsburgh Steelers heading into next season — for now.

Wilson and Fields split duties in 2024 and booked Pittsburgh an AFC wild-card playoff appearance. Granted, the Steelers lost their final five games of the season, but the organization is still considering choosing between the two free agents to fill next season’s starting quarterback role. Fields has the upper hand in age (25 years old) and Wilson has the experience advantage having won a Super Bowl, however, the franchise could look elsewhere.

Perhaps even targeting future Hall of Famer and four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers?

Rodgers and the New York Jets are expected to part ways following a meeting between the 41-year-old, new coach Aaron Glenn and new general manager Darren Mougey, per ESPN’s Rich Cimini. That’ll end Rodgers’ two-year run in the Big Apple and open the door for an opportunity to bounce back and uplift a franchise in need of a quarterback, which summarizes where the Steelers are heading into the offseason.

It’s a bit of a connect-the-dots scenario with no concrete rumors behind it at the moment, but the oddsmakers don’t see Rodgers joining the Steelers as a far-fetched possibility.

Rodgers returned healthy in 2024 following his season-ending torn left Achilles two seasons ago, and finished the this past campaign totaling 3,897 yards passing with 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. The Jets fired head coach Robert Saleh after the team’s 2-3 start, and New York won just three more times from then on, notching a 5-12 record.

During an appearance on ESPN’s “Pat McAfee Show,” Rodgers spoke highly of Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, and claimed the Super Bowl XLII champ has the “special sauce.”

“There’s only one Mike Tomlin, first and foremost, and you have to give Mike credit. He’s got the special sauce,” Rodgers said in 2024. “He seems to understand how to motivate his guys every single year. For him to not have a losing season is absolutely ridiculous. … I’ve always respected Mike from afar and I think he’s done one hell of a job in Pittsburgh.”
