Insider Claims Pirates Are ‘Committed’ To Bolstering This Part Of Roster

It sounds like the Pirates are going to look to add this summer

The Pittsburgh Pirates aren’t far away from landing a National League Wild Card spot.

Pittsburgh currently has a 44-48 record but is just three games out of a Wild Card spot with the 2024 Major League Baseball trade deadline quickly approaching.

The Pirates have some exciting, young talent — headlined by All-Star pitcher Paul Skenes — and could make some noise if they are able to have a strong trade deadline. While the Pirates may not swing a blockbuster deal, they are expected to be busy and reportedly are “committed” to boosting the offense, according to The Athletic’s Jim Bowden.

“General manager Ben Cherington has been texting up a storm with opposing GMs, searching for ways to improve his team’s offense,” Bowden said. “Although the Pirates are not expected to make a huge splash, they are committed to upgrading their offense in multiple spots in both the infield and outfield.”

It’s unclear exactly what this could end up looking like for the Pirates, but we won’t have to wait long to find out. The trade deadline will come and pass on July 30th and the Pirates certainly sound like they will be busy.

The National League is having a down year overall and therefore there is a spot for the taking if the Pirates can make an addition or two to the offense. Pittsburgh already has a shot at a playoff spot even if it doesn’t end up adding, but bolster the offense even a little bit could go a long way.

A handful of possible players already have been mentioned as options and at this point we won’t have to wait around long to find out how the Pirates’ plan will take action.
