The Steelers are headed to Dublin, Ireland.
Pittsburgh will host the Green Bay Packers in a game at Dublin’s Croke Park, according to the Irish Times. The NFL is expected to make an official announcement regarding the game before the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles meet in Super Bowl LIX on Sunday.
The Steelers would be the first team to host a regular season game in Ireland, which is fitting. Dan Rooney, the team’s former owner, served as the U.S. ambassador to Ireland in President Barack Obama’s administration from 2009-2012. Pittsburgh last played in an international game in 2013, when they lost to the Minnesota Vikings in London.
Croke Park has never hosted a regular season professional football game, though Notre Dame and Navy did meet in a regular season matchup with each other in 1996.
The Steelers have played a pre-season game against the Chicago Bears at Croke Park, however, which was part of the “American Bowl” series and was held on August 3, 1997.
