Steelers Floated As Hypothetical Fit For Rams Star Receiver Cooper Kupp

Will the Steelers add another receiver?

The Pittsburgh Steelers surely will be looking to bolster the wide receiver room this offseason.

That has been one of the biggest stories to follow with the team over the last year. Last summer, the Steelers tried hard to bring San Francisco 49ers star Brandon Aiyuk to town. Since then, the Steelers have been tied to players like Davante Adams and Christian Kirk. The Steelers eventually did get a trade done before the trade deadline and got Mike Williams,

Pittsburgh needs to add more talent to the receiver room this offseason so any big-name player who may be available likely will end up being mentioned as a fit for the Steelers. Bleacher Report’s Maurice Moton discussed hypothetical landing spots for Los Angeles Rams star Cooper Kupp and had Pittsburgh on his list of six teams.

“The Pittsburgh Steelers tried to acquire wideout Brandon Aiyuk last offseason, but the San Francisco 49ers signed him to an extension,” Moton said. “They acquired Mike Williams from the New York Jets before the Nov. 5 trade deadline, but he’ll be a free agent in March. In addition to a need at wide receiver, The Athletic’s Mike DeFabo suggested that the team’s patience with George Pickens may be running thin…

“If the Rams are interested in a young deep-threat receiver, the Steelers may be willing to swap Pickens for Kupp and draft capital in a package deal. Alternatively, they could retain Pickens and acquire the 31-year-old to balance their receiver room. If Pittsburgh went the latter route, it wouldn’t have to be reliant on Pickens as its key source of receiving production on the perimeter. With that said, the Steelers must sort out their quarterback situation with Russell Wilson and Justin Fields set to become free agents.”

There have been some rumblings already that Kupp could be a change-of-scenery option this offseason. It’s far too early to know that, though. The playoffs are still going on. We won’t know about Kupp’s future for a bit. If he does become available, though, don’t be shocked if Steelers chatter picks up.
