One Hypothetical Fit For Steelers At QB Not Named Russell Wilson, Justin Fields

What's next for Pittsburgh?

The Pittsburgh Steelers need to address the quarterback room again.

Pittsburgh brought in Justin Fields and Russell Wilson last offseason and both did a good job. The Steelers started Fields for the first six games and went 4-2. Wilson took over and went 6-5 over the next 11 weeks. The Steelers also lost against the Baltimore Ravens in the playoffs so Wilson was 6-6 overall starting for Pittsburgh.

Who will be the team’s starter next year? Neither are under contract so the Steelers will have to make a tough decision. It would make sense to bring either back. There will be other fits out there if Fields and Wilson both decide not to come back. If the Steelers look to free agency to add another quarterback, one easy fit would be Jameis Winston.

He clearly has a lot of talent and likely would be cheap. He spent the 2024 season with the Cleveland Browns but will be available on the open market. The Steelers clearly got a good look at him this season. Winston has all of the talent in the world, although he sometimes throws the ball to the other team.

Adding someone cheap like Winston only would make sense if Fields and Wilson decided to go elsewhere. The Steelers then could get Winston and draft and stash a young guy. There’s a lot of question marks that the Steelers need to answer this offseason and adding someone like Winston could be a short-term solution.
