History was made in the Pittsburgh Penguins big win on Friday night.
Pittsburgh ended a three-game losing streak with a 5-2 win against the Buffalo Sabres. The win was much-needed after a week that featured waiving longtime starting goaltender Tristan Jarry. The Penguins turned to netminder Alex Nedeljkovic instead, and he responded by making some history.
Not only did the Penguins’ goalie make 40 saves on 42 shots, but he managed to score a goalie goal on the empty net at the end of the game — marking the 19th goal and 16th goalie to score on in NHL history.
The history for the 29-year-old, however, was that he became the first goalie in NHL history to score a goal and dish out an assist in the same game. Nedeljkovic recorded the assist on Cody Glass’ power-play goal in the second period, giving the Penguins a 3-1 lead.
With their goaltender making some history, there’s plenty to be excited about right now as the Pens look to make it two in a row on Saturday night when they face off with the Washington Capitals. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. EST.
