Steelers QB Russell Wilson Opens Up About Possible Return To Pittsburgh

Who will be the team's starting quarterback?

Will the Pittsburgh Steelers bring Russell Wilson back in 2025?

It certainly sounds like he hopes that will be the case.

Wilson joined the Steelers ahead of 2024 season and will be available on the open market this offseason. He missed the team’s first six games of the season and started the final 11. Wilson went 6-5 over that stretch and had 16 touchdown passes to just five interceptions.

He certainly made it sound like he’s hoping to return, as transcribed by ESPN’s Brooke Pryor.

“Russell Wilson is scheduled to be a free agent this offseason, but the veteran quarterback said he wanted to remain with the Pittsburgh Steelers,” Pryor said. “‘That’s the plan,’ Wilson said Monday at the team’s locker room clean out. ‘I love it here and everything else, and I think we have a great football team. Obviously it didn’t end the way we wanted it to, and I think there’s a lot more to do.’

“Wilson, though, clarified he hasn’t met with the Steelers to explicitly discuss his future. ‘I think they’ve known that I’ve always wanted to be here and play here, but it is also a process,’ Wilson said when asked if the Steelers’ reciprocated his desire to return. ‘We haven’t had those meetings yet, so we will have those and we’ll go from there.'”

It certainly would make some sense to bring Wilson back, but the Steelers will have to make that decision. The Steelers also have Justin Fields hitting the open market who likely will at least be considered in some capacity as well.
