The Pittsburgh Steelers attempted to fix the most important position on offense this past offseason, yet they are now heading into the 2025 offseason with question marks once again surrounding it.
Pittsburgh signed Russell Wilson and traded for Justin Fields to bolster a quarterback position that has been lackluster since the retirement of Ben Roethlisberger. Overall, it turned out to be a fine decision for the Steelers as they finished the season with a 10-7 record — which was the same as last year with similar struggles at the position.
Ultimately, the Steelers ended the season on a sour note with a five-game losing streak, including a tough one-sided loss to the Baltimore Ravens in the NFL Wild Card Round on Saturday night. Now the questions regarding the quarterback position have returned and head coach Mike Tomlin hasn’t made it clearer.
Speaking to the media Tuesday, Tomlin said there’s work ahead with no quarterback under contract.
“We don’t have a quarterback under contract,” Tomlin said. “We are certainly open to considering those guys, but we have a lot of work ahead of us.”

Both Wilson and Fields head into free agency with the opportunity to play elsewhere next season. There’s a chance one, both, or neither come back into the fold. It remains to be seen who the Steelers will be starting at the helm come Week 1.
