Aaron Rodgers To Steelers? NFL Writer Raises Idea About Pairing

Russell Wilson is an impending free agent

Russell Wilson helped the Steelers limp into the AFC playoffs, but it’s fair to wonder whether he’ll remain in Pittsburgh following a second-half implosion.

Wilson is an impending free agent after he agreed to a modest one-year deal with Mike Tomlin’s team last offseason. Wilson’s play and contract situation prompted longtime NFL writer Peter King to link the Steelers to a different veteran quarterback, whose own future is up in the air.

“If I were the Pittsburgh Steelers, knowing that I’ve got Cam Heyward, T.J. Watt — I got guys on defense with their expiration dates not long in the future — I would want to come in and try to get a quarterback who could make me competitive with Baltimore and Cincinnati in 2025,” King said during a recent episode of the “Let’s Go” podcast. “And that guy, to me, is Aaron Rodgers.”

Rodgers’ situation with the Jets, and perhaps Steelers backup quarterback Justin Fields, each could play a role in the two parties teaming up. Fields, like Wilson, is an impending free agent. But if Tomlin likes what he’s seen from Fields maybe Pittsburgh decides to elevate the former first-rounder to the top of the depth chart.
