The Pittsburgh Penguins are in the midst of a difficult stretch that didn’t stop on Tuesday night.
Entering Tuesday’s tilt against the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Penguins had dropped three straight games — including back-to-back games in extra time. Unfortunately for the Penguins, they came up short once again to the Blue Jackets, losing 4-3 in the shootout on home ice.
Pittsburgh scored three goals to go up 3-1 in the third period with Michael Bunting scoring once and Rickard Rakell potting the other two goals. It was from there that they saw the lead disappear, the Blue Jackets answered with goals from Dmitri Voronkov and Adam Fantilli, who scored on the power play to tie the game.
In the shootout, Pittsburgh went 0-for-2 while the Blue Jackets saw Kent Johnson and Kirill Marchenko beat Tristan Jarry to earn the win.
The positive note for Penguins fans is that despite the losing streak, Pittsburgh has been able to earn a point per game over the last three outings. They’ll look to get a two-point victory for the first time since 2024 when the Penguins face the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday at 7 p.m. EST.
