Steelers Quarterback Opens Up About Potential Return Next Season

Justin Fields wants to return to Pittsburgh next season

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields may be suiting up for the black and gold again next season.

Fields signed a one-year deal with the Steelers this offseason with the expectation that Russell Wilson would be the starter, but after a preseason injury to Wilson, Fields began the season under center. Fields led Pittsburgh to a 4-2 record across the six games he started. This season, he has thrown for 1,106 yards and five touchdowns to only one interception, adding another five touchdowns on the ground.

After a successful season with Pittsburgh, Fields expressed his desire to stay with the team next season, according to Trib Live’s Kevin Gorman.

“I want to be here,” Fields said. “I’m kind of tired of learning a new offense every year. This will be my third in four years. Of course, I’d love to be back, but that’s all up to God at the end of the day. I’ll be where God wants me to be.”

“Russ has been great. Of course, his job is not to mentor me. But anytime I have a question for him, anytime I ask a question he gives me his thoughts on that. I’m always picking his brain on different things. It was for sure a season of growth, in every way. You name it: Developing footwork, getting smarter, learning different defenses, different schematics and stuff like that – Coach T’s helping me a lot with that. I definitely got better from last year.”

Fields did look improved this season, and learning from a veteran champion like Wilson likely will be good for his career. The Steelers are predicted to bring back Wilson in the offseason as well. Bringing back Fields also gives the Steelers a potential long-term solution at quarterback.
