The Pittsburgh Steelers will have four players participating in the National Football League Pro Bowl Games this season.
The league announced the selections for the AFC and NFC squads on Thursday and four Steelers were present on the initial list. The four players who initially made the cut are outside linebacker T.J. Watt, defensive tackle Cam Heyward, safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and kicker Chris Boswell.
None of these four are that shocking. Watt is one of the most dominant defensive players in football. He has 11.5 sacks so far this season to go along with 61 total tackles, 27 quarterback hits, and a league-leading six forced fumbles. Clearly, he still is one of the best players in the game and this is his seventh straight year earning the nod.
Heyward has eight sacks himself and continues to be one of the team’s most consistent performers on defense. Fitzpatrick will make his third straight Pro Bowl and fifth overall of his career. Boswell has had a historic season for the Steelers and is leading the league in both field goal attempts at 43 and makes at 40.
All four of these players are deserving of the honor. Pittsburgh has had a great season and has a chance to make a deep run in the AFC playoffs. Because of this, it isn’t surprising that they have a handful of players who have been among the best at their positions this year. It has been a successful year for the Steelers so far with a lot left to play for.
