Penguins forward Sidney Crosby had a memorable Sunday, setting the franchise record for most assists in team history during a victory over the New York Islanders.
Crosby received plenty of acknowledgment at the moment, with the game briefly being stopped so he could receive a standing ovation and wave to the hometown crowd after sending a backhand feed to Michael Bunting. Pittsburgh kept the celebration going in the locker room, where Bunting took a hilarious jab at his captain.
“To Sid, you’re welcome,” Bunting said.

“I think you appreciate those kinds of things a little bit more,” Crosby said following the game, per WJAC. “It’s not why you play by any means, but to get (the record) and to get that kind of reception, it means a lot. I have a lot of appreciation for what the guys have done on that list, especially Mario (Lemieux) and what he means to the city and the organization, all the guys who have played prior to me, it’s just really nice to be part of that company.”

Lemieux, of course, previously held the record.
Bunting signed the stick he used to score the goal to gift to Crosby, which we’re sure is among the great pieces of memorabilia owned by the 37-year-old.
