The Pittsburgh Pirates welcome one of the brightest pitching minds in baseball with the addition of assistant pitching coach Brent Strom.
Strom, 76, is a pitching coach with a pedigree of success. He most recently served as a pitching coach for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Strom has not only helped develop multiple Cy Young Award winners and finalists but has been the lead pitching coach on a World Series-winning team.
In an interview from MLB.com, Strom expressed his excitement about joining the Pirates organization and how he jumped at the opportunity to join the organization.
“I followed this organization, especially the young pitching,” Strom said. “(I) had a chance to meet Skenes in the All-Star game (and I) got to know him for a short period of time (and I) was very impressed. So when the offer was made at least to interview for this to help out, I jumped at it. I’m very excited to get going again. I’m going to be the best assistant pitching coach that I could possibly be.”
“Pitching wise, over here in Pittsburgh, things have obviously been on the uptick. Be it the scouting, be it the development at the minor league level and at the big league level, and it hasn’t gone unnoticed by the baseball world. I want to add on as much as I can.”

The Pirates have a great starting rotation headlined by ace Paul Skenes. Pittsburgh also has a plethora of talented pitching prospects like Bubba Chandler and Braxton Ashcraft. Bringing in Strom to assist pitching coach Oscar Marin could help propel the Pirates upward.
