Major League Baseball has held the MLB Draft Lottery for 2025 and the Pittsburgh Pirates now know where they’ll be making their selection in the first round.
The Pirates will have the No. 6 pick in the 2025 MLB Draft following the lottery results Tuesday. After finishing with a 76-86 record in the 2024 campaign, the Pirates had a 5.3 percent chance of getting the first overall pick. With the sixth-best odds, they landed where they were projected. The Washington Nationals will have the first pick in the upcoming draft.
Over the last couple of years, the Pirates have made some important picks in the first round — including the 2023 MLB Draft where they selected reigning National League Rookie of the Year pitcher Paul Skenes with the first overall pick.
Here’s a look at who the Pirates have selected with their first-round picks since 2020:
2024: Konnor Griffin, SS (Ninth overall)
2023: Paul Skenes, SP (First overall)
2022: Temarr Johnson, SS (Fourth overall)
2022: Tom Harrington, SP (36th overall)
2021: Henry Davis, C (first overall)
