The Penguins might be sitting toward the bottom of the Metropolitan Division standings, but that doesn’t mean they can’t look for reinforcements.
Pittsburgh reportedly has an interest in making one particular addition, as a matter of fact, with Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman doubling down on growing speculation regarding the club’s infatuation with Vancouver Canucks forward Nils Hoglander.
“I think Pittsburgh has real interest in Nils Hoglander,” Friedman wrote on Thursday.
“He’s going through it right now in Vancouver,” Friedman originally said in his “32 Thoughts” podcast on Monday. “He’s struggling to get ice time. I think there are some teams that are very interested. I think Pittsburgh would be one of those teams. He’s signed, and Pittsburgh makes a lot of sense.”
Hoglander is off to a slow start this season after a breakout campaign in 2023-24 when he registered 24 goals and 36 total points. The Canucks aren’t too pleased with his response, though, as he has just five total points in 24 games while averaging a career-low 11:53 of ice time.

The Pens are seeking to add young talent as they retool their roster, with general manager Kyle Dubas making similar moves by acquiring young forwards like Philip Tomasino in November and Cody Glass last August with both players in similar situations. Could Hoglander be next?
