Two Penguins Selected To Play In First-Ever 4 Nations Face-Off

The mini tournament kicks off on Feb. 12

The Pittsburgh Penguins will be represented at the inaugural 4 Nations Face-Off next year.

The 4 Nations Face-Off will begin on Feb. 12, 2025, as the United States, Canada, Sweden, and Finland compete to win the mini-tournament. Wednesday was the night to reveal all four of the teams’ rosters — and two players will represent the Penguins.

First off is Pens captain Sidney Crosby, who was previously announced as one of the initial six players for Team Canada. The three-time Stanley Cup Champion will also be the oldest player competing in the tournament.

The second player representing Pittsburgh will be defenseman Erik Karlsson, one of the seven defensemen selected for Team Sweden. Karlsson won the silver medal with Sweden back in the 2014 Winter Olympics — the last time NHL players were allowed to play in the Olympics.

As noted, the 4 Nations Face-Off will go from Feb. 12 to Feb. 28, taking place at the Bell Centre in Montreal and the TD Garden in Boston. It will serve as a replacement for the NHL All-Star Game for the 2024-25 campaign.
