After a difficult loss on “Thursday Night Football,” the Pittsburgh Steelers are under a microscope, which includes their starting quarterback.
The Cleveland Browns managed to tackle the Steelers by a score of 24-19 in the snow. While the loss looked to be a “trap” game more than anything else, it marked yet another game where Pittsburgh couldn’t score over 20 points.
Pittsburgh’s offense has got the job done enough — whether it’s been Russell Wilson or Justin Fields at the helm — but one former NFL star doesn’t believe Wilson is the one doing the heavy lifting for the Steelers this season.
Former NFL MVP and current “First Take” host Cam Newton discussed Wilson and the Steelers on his “4th&1” podcast, stating that it’s Pittsburgh who has carried Wilson so far this season.
“I feel like Russell Wilson is being carried by the Pittsburgh Steelers,” Newton said on his podcast. “I’m going to make a point. Russ is cooking? Is he making some big-time throws? Yes. But I’m looking at a situation where I’m saying ‘bro, he’s not doing anything different.’ What alarmed me was the statistic that it’s like ‘oh man, Russell Wilson’s undefeated, the Steelers are 4-0.’ I’m like who have they played? They played the Jets, the Giants, a still-on-the-bubble Washington Commanders team, and they played the Ravens. By the way, Chris Boswell kicked all the points. And he had an egregious interception.”
