An offensive boost may be on the way for the Pittsburgh Penguins after making a move with the Nashville Predators on Monday.
The Penguins announced that they acquired forward Philip Tomasino from Nashville, sending the Predators a 2027 fourth-round pick that was originally the New York Rangers’ selection. Tomasino is 23 years old and signed through the 2024-25 season. He’s a former first-round pick by Nashville, who selected him in the 2019 NHL Draft.
The 23-year-old forward has played 11 games this season, totaling one assist while averaging 11:18 time on ice. Throughout his professional career, Tomasino has scored 23 goals while dishing out 48 assists, good for 71 points through 159 games. He did manage to record 20 points over 41 games just a season ago, so there’s hope that he can provide a jolt to the Penguins with his arrival.
According to practice lines as updated on Daily Faceoff, Tomasino is expected to slot into the second line alongside Evgeni Malkin and Anthony Beauvillier — proving to be a big step for the new acquisition.
Tomasino will get his first chance to make a mark on Wednesday night when the Penguins face off with the Vancouver Canucks. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. EST.
