Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields made his first appearance in a game since Russell Wilson took over the starting spot in Week 7.
Fields began the season as Pittsburgh’s starting quarterback with Wilson sidelined with an injury. Fields performed well under center, leading the Steelers to a 4-2 record. During that time, he threw five touchdowns and added another five touchdowns on the ground. Despite this, Wilson took over the starting spot when he became healthy. In the Steelers Week 11 matchup against the Ravens, Fields contributed in his three snaps played.
Head coach Mike Tomlin commented on Field’s involvement in the Steelers win against the Baltimore Ravens, as transcribed by Sports Illustrated’s Jack Markowski.
“It was timely,” Tomlin said postgame. “He had a minor hamstring (injury) on the other side of the bye that kind of slowed some of this. But, we haven’t been bashful about some of our intentions … He’s a capable dude, we’re gonna utilize him. He’s really talented.”
“I’m excited about both of these quarterbacks we got on our roster. They both are gonna be reasons why we’re successful and have been … (Fields) had a heck of a week representing (Lamar) Jackson for us, for example. I’m glad he had an opportunity to contribute and put his hand in the power and put his hand in the pile and be a component of why we were successful.”

Fields rushed for 17 yards on two carries in his limited time on the field. He had an eight yard rush on the opening drive of the second half and a nine yard rush which helped set Najee Harris up to close out the game. The Steelers sit atop the AFC North at 8-2, and if Wilson and Fields continue playing this good, who knows how far this team can go in a playoff run.
