Russell Wilson has been thriving with the Pittsburgh Steelers and he’s detailing the reason why he decided to sign with the team in the offseason.
The 35-year-old quarterback has done nothing but succeed through his first three starts with the Steelers, going 3-0 while completing 58.8% of his passes with 737 yards through the air and six passing touchdowns. He also has a rushing touchdown.
This week, Wilson sat down with ESPN to discuss his decision to join the Steelers and his first year with the team.
“Several teams started calling and everything else then all of a sudden my first call was with Mike Tomlin and Omar (Khan),” Wilson told ESPN’s Hannah Storm. “I got to talking to those guys early in the morning, about 7:30 my time on the West Coast and I got to talk to those guys for a while, about an hour and a half, and I think Coach Tomlin and I, we have the same vision of ball. The same love of the game and passion behind it. The obsession with it. After I had talked to Coach Tomlin, had a great conversation, I had about a two-hour FaceTime with Cam, big Cam Heyward, and just talking to him about life and legacy and meaning.”
Wilson added that he also spoke to T.J. Watt and Minkah Fitzpatrick about being a Steeler. He admitted after the conversations, he felt confident about joining the team.
