Heading into their bye week, the Pittsburgh Steelers sit atop the AFC North with a 6-2 record.
The Steeler’s offense exploded recently, partially due to quarterback Russell Wilson’s return. Pittsburgh’s offense is playing great right now, but their defense has been exceptional all season. The defense has let up the second-fewest points per game at 14.9 and the ninth-fewest total yards per game at 310.3.
While speaking with reporters, Steelers cornerback Donte Jackson acknowledged the high level of play from himself and Joey Porter Jr. but emphasized that there’s still work to be done.
“We didn’t play a lot of ball, [but] we played a lot of good ball,” Jackson said. “Top of the league in a lot of categories. But that means nothing; we’ve just got to keep on working. Because nobody will care what we did before the bye week if we don’t come out this bye week with our head on right, ready to detail our work.”
“That’s really been the message for both of us. Me being an older guy, that’s been the message to him, just to keep growing, keep coming in every day willing to work and to keep getting better. The best thing about this league, you always have new opportunities to grow, new opportunities to get better. That’s really gonna be the model.”

Jackson and Porter Jr. have shown elite flashes this season. Porter Jr. has only given up 20 catches through eight games, with Jackson giving up only 22. The two have combined for four interceptions on the season as well. If they can maintain this high level of play following the bye week, the Steelers’ elite defense will be a huge asset as the team eyes the playoffs.
