New York Giants offensive tackle Jermaine Eluemunor made a bold statement entering Monday night’s loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
“I want to be on an island with him all day,” Eluemunor said, referencing his matchup with all-world pass-rusher T.J. Watt.
Eluemunor, unfortunately for his team’s chances at winning, got his wish.
Watt finished the matchup with seven tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble, the latter of which sealed a victory for the home team late in the fourth quarter. It’s something that the entire city of Pittsburgh probably saw coming after Eluemunor’s comments, though the 29-year-old insists he won the overall matchup.
“I was on an island with him for a majority of the game and he didn’t do a damn thing. I’m not gonna sit here and fricking sing his praises,” Eluemunor told WFAN Radio. “He didn’t do anything for three-and-half quarters and had one impact play.”

Watt, of course, would go on to be named AFC Defensive Player of the Week for the eighth time in his career following the performance, so it’s safe to say he didn’t only have “one impact play.”
