ESPN Analyst ‘Done Betting Against’ Steelers After Jets Win

Tomlin and the Steelers keep proving people wrong

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been proving people wrong all season long and this past week might have been the final time anyone doubts them.

Pittsburgh handled the New York Jets on “Sunday Night Football” with ease, winning 37-15 as Russell Wilson led them to victory. The quarterback threw for 264 passing yards and two touchdowns, adding a rushing touchdown in the win.

The decision shocked many when Wilson got the start after Justin Fields led the team to a 4-2 record, but now it looks as though head coach Mike Tomlin knew exactly what he was doing.

ESPN’s Mina Kimes said as much on her podcast “The Mina Kimes Show” with former quarterback Alex Smith on Tuesday, highlighting how it all paid off even after questioning Tomlin’s choice.

“It was a super high-risk maneuver from a guy who has as much institutional credibility as any coach in the NFL outside of like three or four right now who can do this kind of thing, right,” Kimes said on her podcast. “And it was a move I questioned. All week long I was like ‘I don’t get this.’

“I thought he (Justin Fields) was playing fine and equally important, I didn’t see a lot from Russell Wilson last year. As you articulated, they got exactly what they needed from him and what I’m sure Tomlin made the bet hoping for. The willingness to push the ball down the field to George Pickens.”

To close out the segment on Tomlin and the Steelers, Kimes admitted that she won’t be betting against the team anymore moving forward.

“I’m done betting against the Steelers generally and whatever dark magic that team has,” Kimes said. “They just win games and the defense is still extremely good.”

Pittsburgh takes the field in Week 8 against the New York Giants on Monday night, looking to go to 6-2 before their bye week.
