Sidney Crosby Becomes Tenth Player In NHL History To Reach 1,600 Points

Crosby can't be slowed down

Sidney Crosby has made some more history in the Pittsburgh Penguins’ most recent win.

Pittsburgh battled to a hard-fought overtime win on Wednesday night against the Buffalo Sabres, earning a 6-5 win when Crosby potted the overtime winner — marking his first goal of the 2024-24 campaign. The 37-year-old added two assists in the effort.

It was a night of big moments for the Penguins, but Crosby’s three-point night included his 1,600th career point, making him the tenth player in NHL history to reach the milestone. The Pens captain joins elite company alongside Wayne Gretzky, Jaromir Jagr, Mark Messier, Gordie Howe, Ron Francis, Marcel Dionne, Steven Yzerman, Mario Lemieux, and Joe Sakic.

With the three-point night (including making some history), Crosby now has a goal and five points, which is good for six points this season. The overtime winning effort moves the Penguins to 3-2-0 on the year, including back-to-back wins over Atlantic Division teams.

Pittsburgh will get back to work on Friday night. The Penguins will take on their Metropolitan Division-rival Carolina Hurricanes in an important matchup. Carolina has only played two games thus far, so the Pens will look to keep their momentum rolling into a third-straight victory. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. EST.
