Evgeni Malkin continues to make personal history, still playing at a high level for the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Despite a tough start for Pittsburgh, Malkin has had a strong start to the 2024-25 NHL season. Through four games, the 38-year-old has posted a goal and six assists, good for seven points thus far. With two assists on Saturday against the Toronto Maple Leafs, the center became the 37th player in NHL history to reach 1,300 points.
Following the loss to the Maple Leafs, Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan paid major respects to Malkin after his two-helper performance, calling him one of the all-time greats.
“I think it speaks for itself. He’s one of the greatest players of all time,” Sullivan said, as transcribed by Penguins team reporter Michelle Crechiolo. “He’s clearly one of the best players of this generation. We’re fortunate that we have two of them on our team. It’s quite a privilege to watch these two guys perform… I know the Pittsburgh fan base feels the same way.”
Malkin and the Pens will look to make it two wins in a row on Wednesday when they take the ice against the Buffalo Sabres.
