Who will be the Pittsburgh Steelers’ starting quarterback on Sunday when they take on the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 6 action?
The most likely option still seems to be Justin Fields, but now the decision will be a little tougher for the organization. Fields initially was going to be the team’s backup this season. He and Russell Wilson fought for the starting job throughout the summer, and Pittsburgh chose Wilson.
A calf injury has kept Wilson out of action, though, opening the door for Fields. He has been very solid under center for Pittsburgh, although the team has lost two straight games.
Fields have been secure in the job as he has been the only fully healthy top option. That may not be the case any longer, as Wilson is expected to be a full participant in Wednesday’s practice, according to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer.
“Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said (quarterback) Russell Wilson is scheduled to be a full participant in practice on Wednesday,” Breer said. “He’ll get reps with the second team, per Tomlin, ‘as not to disrupt Justin’s preparation.'”

From this report, it sounds like Wilson will be able to fully participate in Wednesday’s practice, but the team still is preparing Fields to be the team’s starter on Sunday against the Raiders. Things could always change, but it doesn’t seem like that is going to be the case. Fields has been given an opportunity as the team’s starting quarterback and has made the most of it. Now, the Steelers have two viable options who will be ready to go, and it sounds like it’s Fields’ job to lose.
