Steelers Kicker Chris Boswell Receives Honor For Standout Month

Boswell named AFC Special Teams Player of the Month

The Pittsburgh Steelers have one of the most consistent kickers in the entire league.

Chris Boswell has been nearly perfect for the Steelers this season, and he’s been an extremely efficient kicker for Pittsburgh since joining the team in 2015. Boswell is 242-of-277 on field goal attempts (87.4%), including 110-of-138 (79.7%) on 40 yards or longer attempts since joining the team. He’s scored 39 points for Pittsburgh this season, including 18 in Week 1, which earned him AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors.

After a terrific first four weeks of the season, Boswell was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Month for September, according to Steelers.com’s Teresa Varley.

“It’s been quite the month for Steelers kicker Chris Boswell. First, Boswell was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in Week 1 of the season,” Varley said. “And now, Boswell was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Month for September, capping a month where he was well beyond clutch for the Steelers.”

“Boswell went 11 for 12 on field goal attempts for the month, including a long of 57 yards, and six for six on extra point attempts through four games, scoring a total of 39 points. His 11 field goals made, five field goals of 50+ yards, 91.7% field goal percentage and 83.3% field goal percentage of 50+ yards all lead the AFC and rank second in the NFL. Boswell’s only miss of the season came on a 62-yard field goal attempt in Week 3 vs. the Los Angeles Chargers.”

The Steelers are leading the AFC North at 3-1 after the first month of the regular season. Pittsburgh will continue to give Boswell opportunities to shine with how the offense has been performed. They face a tough Dallas Cowboys team primetime in Week 5.
